maybe a map of the area in the 40-50's would solve the question.

this may be silly but any chance it was a temporary site set up for war casualties and then disappeared at the end of the war? (you know like a tent!)

Brayton Barff

Brayton Barff is the high point of the area – standing some 150 feet above sea level. It was the site of a beacon in 1803 when we were threatened with invasion by Napoleon.

In May 1935, to celebrate King George V's Silver Jubilee, a Bonfire on the Barff as part of the celebrations. In both World Wars much use was made of the various Camps on the Barff and they housed Prisioners of War in WW2.

It is now owned by Yorkshire Water, who have provided a car park on the Barff Lane side of the Barff, and is well used by walkers and bird watchers.
from the parish council site.

there was a USA airfield control tower there in WW2, which has now been demolished

i tried googling WW2 Brayton it has come up with a lot of information for Brayton for that time.
and two war diaries.

maybe it was on the POW camp.??
