1861 census - Routh
« on: Sunday 20 May 07 19:24 BST (UK) »
I cannot find on Ancestry the following relative on the 1861 Census;

Joseph Routh born April 1850 in Thirsk, North Yorks. His family seem to be in the Thirsk/Ripon area but he is not with them. If anyone out there has access to another website other than Ancestry could you please have a look for him.

Thank you

Hello,
who are the rest of his family?
Ancestry has one in 1901 born 1850 Thirsk who appears to have been out of the country for a time- perhaps a soldier - wife born Ireland and children in India. As yet that is the only sighting of him.
This however would not account for his being absent when 10 yrs old.

best wishes
heywood

Hi

Such a shame that no response was made on the following thread, otherwise Isobel might have had another look for Joseph.

Anyway, for those now looking, at least it shows the rest of the family

His parents were James and Ann they were in Thirsk in 1861 with their younger children, but the older children Henry (1846), Christopher (1848) and Joseph (1850) were not with them. Henry and Christopher I have found in service around the county, but no sign of Joseph.
I have info on Joseph from 1869 onwards, he joined the Army and was stationed all over the empire.
