I have not really noticed the marriage by Licence before!

This certificate does say by Licence :-) so I will see if I can find out more from the Licolnshire Archives!

Out of interest I've just looked through all my marriage certificates and noticed some do say by Licence but others say either Banns, Baptists, Congregationalists, Wesleyan Methodists by certificate, Independants or Established Church - what is the difference between these different entries??

There is a good article about marriage licences on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_license#Marriage_licences_in_the_UK

Another example of an error I have come across in official records was in a Church of England baptism register for a Lincolnshire village. The entry listed completely different parents (they were other relatives) and I had proof from other sources that this was the case.
