Tube Drawers
« on: Saturday 19 May 07 18:10 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather Edward Moore. His occupation on my Grandparents
wedding certificate was a Steel Tube Drawer. My Grandad Frank Shellard was a Copper Tube
Drawer. He worked at The Yorkshire Copper Works in Stourton Leeds. I think that Edward may
have worked there too. It is possible that Edward had a son called William who was a tube drawer.
Frank Shellard came to Leeds from Birmingham to work in Stourton and I think that Edward and
Willam may have done so as well. I cannot find anything concrete to confirm this. I have tried
writing to the Copper Works but they cannot help me. Can anyone suggest anything. The
familes all seemed to live in the Belmonts. Lily Moore which could be my Grandma's niece and
daughter of William married a James Smith st St Andrews Church, Stourton in 1931.
I need to find if the Same William Moore that was married to a Laura, is the same Willam
but I cannot find details of the wedding anywhere. I do think that it would have been in
Birmingham.

Hi Celia

The reason that I posted this mesage on here
was in the hope that Tube Drawers may jog
someones memory. I am having real trouble
finding out anything about my Grandma
Sarah Shellard (nee Moore). All I know is
that she was born in 1888 possibly in
Birmingham. her Father was called Edward.
He was a Tube Drawer and was dead by the
time Grandma married my Grandad Frank
in Leeds 1914. Frank was also a Tube
Drawer. I know Sarah died 3 May 1946
and was buried in Hunslet Old Cemetery
7 May 1946. The only Sarah Moore that
I can find is on 1901 census in Birmingham.
She is on with her Brother William Moore and
Sister-in-law Laura. Sarah age 12 the other
2 aged 21. 1927-30 Electoral Roll in Leeds
shows a Lily Moore living with Frank and Sarah. Belmont Crescent, Stourton Leeds.
Then in 1931 a Lily Moore married a James
Smith they were both living in Belmont
Crescent. On the wedding certificate it
shows a William Henry Moore as Lily's
Father he was also a Tube Drawer. I am
wondering if this William could be Sarah's
Brother. My problem is I cannot find a
marriage for William and Laura or a birth
for William or Sarah. I am really stuck.
I know people have said that Sarah was
allegedly said to have an Irish temper.
If the family were originally from Ireland
I will be totally lost because I understand
that alot of the Irish records were destroyed.
I would be grateful for any help at all. Where
else should have I put this post. I am not
good at this sort of thing.

Thank you.

Julie Richardson

Hi Julie  :)

You could try posting a message either on one of the English county boards (e.g. Yorkshire, the county you know your grandparents were born in) or on the general England board, asking for assistance.  Seems like finding Sarah Moore on the 1901 census would be a good start so you could ask for that, giving a bit of background with any known facts about her.

Cheers  :D

P.S.  What are the ages of the couple on their marriage certificate?  And who are the witnesses?

Hi

On Sarah and Frank's wedding cert the
witnesses are Ernest Kimberley and
Maud Roberts. On Lily Moore and James
Smith the witnesses are Albert Garside
and Elsie Moore. Regarding the 1901
census, I have looked and looked again
but I cannot find anything concrete.
Nothing seems to fit. I have looked on
1891 as well. It looks like Sarah and
Frank were married at The Reistry Office. It says The Registry Office District of Hunslet
Counties of Leeds and York. It is all such
a mystery as if they just appeared from
no where.

Thanks

Julie
