Hi Sandie
I can not find any William Welch around the dates where I think he would have been. The only thing did he go under a different name. Have you tried looking on the census for your grandfather and gt grandfather which might give us a few more clues.

Hello Sue
In July last year you very kindly looked for Charles Oxford for me. I wonder if you could please repeat the look up for Charles AXFORD. I think he was born about 1783 possibly Ludgate.

Hi Sue
Thank you very much for looking, I must admit I wasn't holding my breath!
I have tried the censuses, even the 1911, but nothing.
Thanks again for trying.

hi Sue
i have only just found this thread and am not sure if you can help.
my gt gt grandfather is listed in the 1851 Census as being a waterman but i have no idea what that means. His name was listed in the census as Williams Vincent born approx 1805 on Isle of Wight. he had children born in Hythe Kent, Youghall Ireland and Rye Sussex but as i am in Australia i have no idea what these areas have in common except that they are near water.
i cannot find any other record of him.
Would you be able to help me at all with such basic information?
Kind regards
Maz

Suzi
I would appreciate a further look up of the Watermen & Lightermen's indexes... the MAN/N results proved a wonderful shortcut to the records on a brief UK trip in Nov 08... now I find I have more to pursue ... GLEDHILL, [William Limbery c. 1800
St George in the East]. [Anthony/ey family also connected - have these from another persons enquiry.]

Sparrow, I seem to have received your message but I am a novice at all this. You will probably have reached Suzi too and she will have all the answers. Good luck with your search. My surnames are Goss and Pickering, if you should stumble on any threads let me know. B.

Hello Sue ....
I wonder if you would be able to look at a name for me please.
In 1881 I have William Liscoe as a Lighterman- keeper b Horsleydown @1854.
Back in the 1700's Liscoe's appear as wharfingers around the Bemondsey /Southwark areas...... mostly Hay Wharf.
Are there any LISCOE names mentioned please.
Many Thanks
Tazzie
