Thanks Sue,

It doesn't look like my William was apprenticed on the Thames then. I appreciate you looking anyway.

Hello

Please could i ask for a look up of a supposed Waterman called John Burles, he was born in 1813, so guess maybe he was a waterman 20ish years or more after that. Also be interested in any other Burles that may be recorded.

Thank you Gary

I have been asked by someone about the signs which I have now found out what they mean.
The # sign indicates that the apprentice was reassigned to another master during his apprenticeship period.
The ** sign means that there is additional information is to be found in the original binding book regarding an address.

Thank you so much Sue, you will make my cousin very very happy. He thought there were only two, one of which was his great grandfather,  but now has more.

Sue, if you are still doing look ups and have a bit of time could you look up a Charles Pearce for me?

Charles was 40 years old at the time of the 1841 census and living at Kings Place, Crosby Row, Bermondsey. His occupation was listed as waterman. On the marriage certificate of his son in 1859 he was listed as deceased and his occupation was lighterman.

Thanks

Thanks Sue, I've sent of for his apprenticeship affidavit now.
What would be the next step to finding where he actually worked after that?

Hi Sue

Do you have any BAYFORDs in your records please?

Specifically a William BAYFORD who (family story says) drowned around 1932 but had been working on the Thames.  I have a photo which might or might not be a lighterman's boat, with William in it.

He was born about 1908 we believe.

I hope this is still within the scope of your records.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
