Oh...my...word....!

That'll keep me quiet for a bit  ;D

Thank you very much, Sue!

OH's young nephew from SA is here in London. He is a Huntingford and they have been in SA for three generations, and have no clue about their English past. Nephew has got a job on the Thames. So I did the tree and found to my amazement that it must be in the genes!

Now there are dozens of 'em!

Thanks again

If Sue is still doing lookups in the Watermen
and Lightermen apprenticeship bindings CD
could she please lookup and advise entries
for the RAYMOND surname. Among mine known to
have been lightermen just from the late 1700s
were definitely:

John Raymond 1783-1850 - father was John?
Mead Raymond 1885-1843 - father was John?
Augustus Raymond 1821-1877 - father was Mead
Mead Terry Raymond 1817-1866 -father was Mead

A similiar request message was sent to Sue's personal mailox before this topic was discovered.

Thank you,

John Raymond

Could you check for a Walter (James) Phillips c 1850/60's or any persons with the surnames Waldron or Parsons please.

Rumour has it that my Gt x2 Grandfather Walter worked on the Thames in his early years (he was born c1847 in Worcester).

The Waldrons & Parsons (usual christian names were Thomas, William, James or Joseph) were Rivermen based in the Worcester area but were also rumoured to travel extensively between Worcester, the Severn & the Thames.

Many thanks

Hope that helps  ???

Hi Sue

Could you please try a look up for William Rhodes who was described as a waterman but deceased on his son's marriage certificate in 1859. I can't say where William was working but the son (born around 1835) married and set up home in Lambeth.

Thanks

Hi Sue - thanks for lisiting those Parsons.

The only definite Parsons I have working on the Thames was a Joseph Parsons between 1800 & 1850

Unfortunately none of the Parsons listed look as if they are related to my Parsons who were, apparently, all based out of Worcester. I can only suppose that even though they did work on the Thames, their indentures must have been Worcester based.

Thanks for checking anyway - much appreciated.
