Hi Sue, is it possible that you may be able to do a CD lookup for Watermen (two) with the same name - Thomas Hoare or Hoar. I do not think either had/used a middle initial in their names although I think that one may have been Thomas C Hoare. I know that both were listed as Watermen in the 1861 census and I believe that the younger (born about 1843) was the youngest ever Thames National Coat and Badge winner in 1861 (Although I have seen a listing of the winners of the Doggetts C & B and Hoare does not appear). The elder (the father) was born about 1822.

I would be grateful for any help.

Hi
Does anyone know why  some apprenticed to the Company of Lightermen and Watermen would also be in the Apprenticeship Listings for the Company of Vintners? I am descended from two families of Clerks and eventually Masters of both Companys and they appear to have flitted Apprenticeship between the both. Which I find really odd..aside from the theory of nepotism of course!
Hope someone can clear this up for me
Thank you

Hello Suzey.
Is it possible that you would do a look up in the Watermen and Lighter-men apprentices for the surname of Phillips.

Mary-B

Many many thanks for this, Sue

I might need more, but there seems so much in what you have given me it will take a little while to join all the dots.

Thanks again

Peter
