*Completed*Seeking a marriage for Richard GRAY please
« on: Monday 14 May 07 15:58 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a needle in a haystack. A magnet would be helpful!

Can anyone help me with a marriage between Richard GRAY to someone named Betty? It could have been around 1790, give or take a few years, and it may well have been in or near Swindon.

My guess is that Richard Gray died in 1807 in Swindon, and that his widow, Betty, married again in 1823. But until I find her maiden name, this is just speculation. There is a Richard GRAY aged 41 who died in 1807, which would make him born in about 1766.

Betty had sisters named Susannah and Sarah, if that helps with pinpointing the right family.

Many thanks for any help with this inquiry.

Kind regards

Philip Candy

Hello Philip,

Have you tried the Sarum Marriage Licence Bonds available on www.familyhistoryonline.net?  A quick search is coming up with seven marriages of a Richard GRAY in that database between 1700 and 1824, though since I have run out of credit I can't see details.

Might be worth a try :)

Many thanks for this. It's right; Richard GRAY was a brewer and maltster and Susannah JENNER also married (William Jenner!) in 1784, which fits perfectly with Betty Mantell's will.

So, thank you very much for this lead; it is just what I needed.

Kind regards
