Hi there,

The work I did on trying to identify the people in the Harris collection is at the following chat topic address. Perhaps these could be moved to the new site as well.

Brilliant, Howard!  Thanks for finding those.  I think I must have very weak powers when it comes to tracking my movements on Rootschat (I think I move around too much!)

I will re-read what you have posted and try to follow up on what I can.

Cheers

Great idea, but sadly, it doesn't work properly on my system.

I know I am out of date - but there's a lot of Mac System 9.2.2 users still out there using IE 5.1.7, and the tabs appear all over the place with no names...so if I manage to find anything, it'll be a miracle. I can post up a screenshot if you like, so you can see what I see when I try it  :(

Hi Brambletye,
Sorry it doesn't work properly on your system, but I'm not a webpage designer by any stretch of the imagination, so what you see is  all you will get, as I use basic templates from a basic software package for dummies, and can't change anything  :-\
Have you thought about downloading Firefox?  I'm sure there's a version that would work with OS9.
Prue :-\

Brambletye

There is no easy way to say this, technology has moved on a long way since Mac 9 (released October 1999) & IE 5 (released March 1999). Even the very versatile Firefox will not work on such a system, from the Firefox website:

Due to the lack of developer interest, build machines, compilers and testing resources, the last mozilla.org software built for Mac OS 9 was Mozilla 1.2.1, released in December 2002. However, versions of our software that old are not recommended for security reasons. Therefore, for Mac OS 9 users, mozilla.org recommends iCab - which is, as far as we know, the only graphical browser currently maintained for Mac OS 9.

That's a shame, John - have to say I hadn't realised OS9 was so old!  :o  I am on 10.4.9 now, but if my old laptop hadn't died a couple of years ago I might still be on OS9.

Sorry brambletye...maybe iCab mentioned in John's message might be useful though?

It is not a program that I had heard of before, so perhaps others could comment on it, but here is a link to their website in case it is of some interest.

Thank you John & Prue, I'll go on the site and see if I can download iCab.

I know I'm out of date, but unless I can run my machine as a dual-boot system, if I upgrade to any version of OSX, I'll have to upgrade all my software and some of my hardware - ouch, megabucks...!

Again, thank you Prue for the pleasure you give us with your work on this site.

I had not visited for some time and have just spent a pleasant hour looking at some of the offerings.

Each time I look at these old pictures I am filled with admiration for the seamstresses who produced the wonderful clothes worn by the women, but tonight I was thinking how interesting it would be to go to a lecture where someone demonstrated the large variety of neckwear for the men, complete with the accompanying garments. I am unable to envision how some of the arrangements are applied. Fascinating.
