George PERKINS - Renhold
« on: Thursday 10 May 07 10:39 BST (UK) »
On my grandfather's side: Thomas Sickling (Coatham, Yorkshire b 1817) married on 11 July, 1865 Susan Perkins (b abt 1826 in Renhold).  Susan's father was George Perkins who married, I think,  Eleanor ?

Also, on my grandmother's side is Charles Perkins (b abt 1831 in Renhold) married on 17 June, 1854 Rachel Mary Goss (b abt 1839 in Sandy).  Charles's father was also a George Perkins who married Eleanor Goodlife.

At this point my search comes to an end.  There are several George Perkins b in the early 1800s and more than one Eleanor so I am left a little confused.  Could it be the same George Perkins on both sides or are they unrelated?  One search suggested that George was born about 1800 and the other George born about 1811 but I was also informed that a George Perkins & Eleanor Goodlife had a Susan and a Charles amongst their children.

So the mystery is unresolved!!!!

There are a few sites you can check out on line by yourself and it is growing all the time  ;D

PERKINS/PERKENS @ http://blarsadlibsoft.com/beginner/indnms.html

It could be that your x times grandparents were cousins of some sort?  Or perhaps, it is a coincidence!

There are no PERKINs aged 17 to 55 on the National Defence list in Renhold [1803] but others in nearby villages...Sandy's list did not survive  >:(

George & Eleanor had 6 children in Renhold it seems between the years of 1820 & 1830 - and Charles was the youngest of the 6  [ IGI batch number C002412]... marriage to Elenor Goodlif 3 Nov 1819...OK?

There are several Geo PERKINs it could be - so I will look for evidence on marriage banns to see which one he is & get back to you later next week?

Welcome to Rootschat! Sorry about the delayed response -must have missed your message originally

It looks to me as though Susan and Charles were brother and sister.

You can see the baptisms of the 6 children of George and Eleanor on the IGI at www.familysearch.org  (but there were others whose baptisms, if they were baptised, are not on the IGI) . These are the only Perkins baptisms in Renhold 1813-75, and there were no Perkins living in Renhold in 1841.

In 1841 the family appears in the census as follows
HO107/10/1 folio 14B
Goldington Rd Bedford St Cuthbert
George Perkins 30 gamekeeper
Eleanor Perkins 30
Harriett 14, Charles 11, Benjamin 9; John 7; Ann 3; Samuel 2 mths
All born in Beds

Whilst the age is wrong there was a 20 year old Susan Perkins, female servant, born in Beds living with  Mary & Harriett Lucas both 60 at Priory Terrace, Bedford St Paul

Ages over 15 in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5 below so 30 could be anywhere in the range 30-34, but the ages of George and Eleanor look to be plainly wrong as they married in 1819

In 1851 there's Susan Perkins 25 Cook, born Renhold living with the Verey family at 8 Harpur Place, Bedford St Paul

In 1861 Charles was a gamekeeper living in Sandy

I can't see them in 1851 which would be much more useful as it gives birthplaces. But i'll carry on in the morning unless anyone else finds them first *

In 1861 though
RG9/989 folio 152A
6 Canning St Bedford St Paul
George Perkins head marr 64 ag lab b Melchbourne Beds
Ellen Perkins wife 64 charwoman b Bassmeare (which I cannot trace, although there is a Basmey/Basmead in Eaton Socon)
Eleanor E Perkins grand dau 13 scholar b Bedford

IGI has George Perkins baptised 6 Aug 1797 at Melchbourne, parents William and Dorothy
Regards

David

* Found them
HO107/1751 folio 674A
10 Canning St Bedford St Paul
George Perkins head marr 52 gamekeeper b Melchbourne Beds
Ellen Perkins wife 62 b Bassmead Beds
Benjamin Perkins son 18 shoemaker b Renhold
John Perkins son 16 servant b Renhold
Samuel Perkins son 11 scholar b Bedford
Ellen Perkins dau 2 b Bedford

That full stop after blars makes all the difference!
