Hi Mary

Looks like we're related then - I've now seen that the person I thought of as Joseph must have been a John, married to Rosamund, so I've now seen the other children from the IGI.  Interesting to see that the Butlers have spread far and wide!  It’s not something I’d ever imagined!

As for my own line - John and Rosamund's son, Joseph Butler b 1782, married Ruth Britland in Sutton in Ashfield on 10 November 1806.  Their son John Butler married Abigail Singleton in Pentrich, Derbyshire, on 8 January 1828.  This couple had various children in SiA, then must have moved to Chesterfield, where the last few children were born.

My Butler tree is a little complicated after that because it involves cousins marrying.

Joseph and Ruth's daughter Elizabeth Butler b abt 1836 married William H Barnsley - they lived in Sheffield and had a daughter Annie Eliza Barnsley around 1863.

Meanwhile Joseph and Ruth’s son (Elizabeth’s younger brother) Charles Butler b 1840 married a Mary (possibly nee Parkes) and they also lived in Sheffield, and had a son Charles Butler in 1867.

Cousins Annie Eliza Barnsley and Charles Butler married in 1894 in Sheffield.

They are my great grandparents.

Hope this makes sense!

Kind regards.
