1851 Brown Willoughby
« on: Friday 03 December 04 16:42 GMT (UK) »
Would someone mind looking at the village of Willoughby on the Wolds in 1851 please? I believe this is on piece 2086.

Looking for a Sarah Brown, born there c.1833. Her parents were Joseph and Ann, but in 1841 she was with grandmother Mary Barnett who died 1847.

If you could also keep an eye out for an Isaac Williams born c.1826 who I have "lost" from Cropwell Bishop - he married Sarah Brown in Willoughby in 1853.

Many thanks, Heather

Sorry Mike, I wasn't disputing that it's in Notts - it definitely is  :) However it's close to the Leics border, only 3 miles from Wymeswold and 4 miles from Burton on the Wolds.

Piece 2086 isn't in the Notts census (it's Loughborough district I believe) but bet your life if I ever track it down, the people I want won't be there  ;D

Hi Heatherdd, just joined this forum and searched for Widmerpool/Willoughby and Barnett, and glad this post appeared. Great to meet another Barnett ancestor researcher  :)

Forgive me for posting this here, I have a slight border qunadry too.  The ancestor I had been looking at records for, is William Barnett b 1807, in the 1841 census his birthplace was listed as Willoughby on the Wolds, then 1861 census lists Widmerpool as his birth place.

Have searched on ancestry.co.uk, looks like William Barnett b 1807 father Samuel Barnett married Mary Skellington 7th July 1806 in Willoughby on the Wolds.  Did a search on the 1841 census to see if  there were more Barnett's in Willoughby on the Wolds pre 1800, there does seem to be a cluster of William and Mary Barnett's pre 1800.  Guessing the next step will be to have a look at parish records and try and piece the jigsaw together some more.  Another Nottinghamshire Leicestershire border quandry, wondering if the parish records for Willoughby on the Wolds be in Nottingham, Leicester or perhaps even both?  Will continue searching and will return to this wonderful forum I am sure :-)
