Glynde Sussex 1775 - c1851

Hi
I am trying to find more info. on the TURNER family of Glynde & Isfield around the above dates.  I am particularly interested in Jesse Turner who married Mary Foord 23/4/1798 and then Sarah CURD 2/11/1812.
I have found info. on IGI. but what I am looking for is an occupation. I don't have a date of death but he may appear in early censuses. I have names of some children but I am sure my list is incomplete.

Hi, I know this is not exactly what you're after but it might help.

Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Isfield, East Sussex,  Date: -- Apr 1798:
Subject: Jesse TURNER, Lewes St.John S.C.
Spouse: Mary FOORD, otp
 
Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Lewes St. John sub Castro, East Sussex,  Date: 23 Apr 1798:
Subject: Jesse TURNER, otp
Spouse: Mary FOORD, Isfield (B)

I don't know why the marriage is recorded twice, it's possible they had two ceremonies?

Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Glynde, East Sussex,  Date:  2 Nov 1812:
Subject: Jesse TURNER, widr
Spouse: Sarah CURD, sp (B)


This could well be the marriage of their son.

 :)Thanks Jane. I think you are right about the second entry he did have a son Jesse.
 It's his daughter (Elenor b.1809) who called herself (Jane Ellen) who sparked my interest in his occupation as she went on to become a school mistress in Hastings and her daughters were also ambitious, as much as working class women in Victorian and Edwardian society could be!
Jane Ellen Smith was also a Wesleyan,and I wondered if there was any connection with the church in her childhood.
I have all the other details but many thanks for info.

Thanks for posting this.
Have found out info. needed by purchasing copy of 1841 Sx Census (from ebay)! Jesse was a carpenter, which completely throws my theories about how his daughter received an education, but that's what makes Family History interesting!

I realise it's been a long time between drinks but have just come across your Jesse Turner posts.  I am a descendant of Jesse & Mary's daughter, Eleanor, born 1809 - have just started researching this line through my Burgess line.  Was wondering, on the 1851 Census there is a notation beside Jesse's name "Mrs F Hays Bounty & Parish Relief - formerly a carpenter".  Do you know what "Bounty" refers to, have not come across this linked with Parish Relief before?
