where are the rest of the grosvenors?
« on: Sunday 06 May 07 21:59 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for the wife and children of Edward Grosvenor b. 1785/6 parents: William G. & Anne Lowe, and wife of John G. b1640 but had son William b. 1683.  Did he only have one child?
Please help.

Hi Jeanne

Sorry you've not had a reply to this but I think your enquiry is too vague at this time.

Where in the world is this family from to start with?

Hi,
I have managed to trace my Grosvenor family uo to William Grosvenor b. 2/08/1683 Claverly, Shropshire married  to Elizabeth Smith b. 1680 in Shropshire.  William's parents were John Grosvenor/Gravenor b.1640 and wife Unknown.
I have now hit the brick wall and looking for a little guidance.  Help will be appreciated.  Thank you.
Regards,
Jeanne Lombard.

Hi Jeanne

I assume your information is from the IGI or from the parish records for Claverly. Your time frames are getting to the stage where you are reaching the limits of parish records, although I notice from the IGI the birth records for Claverly are given as starting 1568. If you look into the batch containing your William, there appear to be a number of siblings for William.

I would suggest that you access the parish records for Claverly & you may be able to find more information (a marriage perhaps for the parents of John). There is an Edward christened 1675 in the same batch, with parents given as John and Margaret. It does happen that a new vicar in some parishes recorded information differently, sometimes giving both parents, sometimes not. Listing all of the family members from the parish at this time & looking at births and marriages may help to break them into family groups. The full copy of the parish register would probably give some burials as well to assist your research.

If you cannot directly access the register, you should be able to order the film of same at your local LDS centre.

Hope this helps

Trish

Edit: Just checked where you are living - If you go to the family search home page

Hi Jeanne

Just to add, The Shropshire Family History Society has published a transcription of the PR's onto microfiche. It costs £5 + postage but you would need access to a microfiche reader (our central library has them) and they would be yours for keeps.

You might also be lucky enough to find a will or 2 at the Shropshire archives

Hope this helps a bit more
