I,ve just checked on the 1901 census - there is a William G Ralphs, aged 26(!!), listed as son of George and Sarah Ralphs, living at 5 New Bridge Street.

My memory of Wolverhampton is also fading. Where is New Bridge Street?

The interesting thing though is that he is listed as being a pattern maker.  Can there be more than one William G Ralphs whowasa pettern maker?

Hope this is helpful
David

P.S. If you come across anything about James Foley, born West Bromwich 1885, or his elder sister Josephine, born 1883 I'd be very grateful

The William G Ralphs son of George and Sarah was born in Birkenhead. George was born in Stafford and the son of William Ralphs born 1827, a bargee hence moved about a bit.
I would need more detail on the other William (scrap dealer) to make any connection, Iwill check data base for any Ralph / Hall marriage. Any idea of time period we talking about?
Don't forget we have two different family names here Ralph and Ralphs

Thanks Charlie, and yes that is my family.I did get date mixed up. Timothy is my great granfather. Do you notice though that Jabez ,his father, is from Staffordshire. I thought thats where the connection to the Ralphs may have came in. I dont know for sure though, I will have to do more research. I will let you all know the outcome.By the way Jabez,s father was from Sedgely, Staffordshire his name was William.
Thanks Michael :D

How far back have you got with Jabez?
Have you pick up the Wedding of Selina Bradley and Jabez Hall 1867 West Brom Vol 66 Page 835, if not it may be worth getting the cert.
William Ralph, my family moved to the Wigan area in the 1880s from Staffordshire. Bilston and William is a common family name, all  are involved with the iron foundry's so this may well be worth a follow up if you think they are from Staffordshire. I have checked the data base and no Hall/ Ralph marriages are listed (as yet!).
If your mother  knew him as a cousin of her grandfather
what sort of date would that put on him or is this Jabez 1845?

Hi again, thanks heaps for that info on marriage. I am still hoping to find a connection with your line. I do have certificate for Jabez and Selina Thanks. I also have census copy for 1851;
William Hall  head 44 iron millman Sedgeley
Jane Hall     wife  41  BILSTON
James son 15 Tipton
William son 13 Tipton
JABEZ son 7 Tipton
Thomas son 5 Tipton
Timothy son 3 Tipton
It maybe coincidence but it seems we are searching around the same area. I havent looked up Jane and Williams marriage yet so have no idea of her maiden name. And so far I have ordered two jabez birth from the right time and both came back negative, one father Richard the other James. I do have one more to try though. I will have to try and rack my mums brains although she was born 1938 so She wont know that much, I will try though. Thanks again for all your help, regards Mike :)
