Thomas Hodgetts

  I have a Thomas Hodgetts b1808 in Kings Norton Birmingham. I have no info on him except he had 2 brothers William b1806 Kings Norton and a big gap to Benjamin b1820 in Wythall. there parents were William b1784 and Elizabeth b1784.
        I wondered if there were any more brothers or sisters as a 12 year gap is awfully big.
        any help would be great

Here is the 1841 census which seems to confirm just the three children. I think that Elizabeth and William aged 4 were grandchildren.

  i wonder if there were other children in the 12 year gap but they died by the time the 1841 census was done or married. is there any way of checking parish records

I am sorry for taking so long to get back to you but the Bank Holiday held me up.

Whilst I was looking for the following links for you on Saturday, I noticed that The Birmingham and Midlands Society for Genealogy and Heraldry had published transcripts of certain Parish Registers for St Nicolas Church in Kings Norton and furthermore, I also noticed that my own local reference library (in North East England, many miles away from Worcestershire) held a copy of them. So I went down there today to have a look for you.

The transcripts cover the following :-

Baptisms 1792 - 1844
Burials 1792 - 1844
Marriages 1754 - 1837 (also some Banns)

I will let you know what I found in a separate post but for the time being here are two links which you might find useful if you wish to pursue it further.

Here is what I found in the transcripts mentioned above.

Baptisms

The bad news is that I could not find any reference to Thomas c1808 who appears on the censuses with his parents but the good news is that I did find the following, which seem to bear out your suspicions :-

1806 January 5th William s of William and Elizabeth Hodgets.

1814 June 19th George s of William and Elizabeth Hodgetts Nailer

1815 November 12th James s of William and Elizabeth Hodgetts of Silver Street Nailer

1820 May 23rd Benjamin s of William and Elizabeth Hodgetts of Silver Street Nailer.

So, there are two more sons (George and James) and the fact that Thomas is missing may also mean that there could be others who are also missing from the transcripts but I have no way of checking that for you. You might have to try the links that I gave you above unless someone else who actually lives in the Kings Norton area could check for you.

I also checked the Burials from 1800 to 1844 but I did not find any relevant ones. I also looked to see if I could find the Marriage of William and Elizabeth between 1798 and 1806 but I could not see it. Sorry.

I have had a quick look on the censuses for George and James and I can see possible candidates for each but with no confidence whatsoever that any of them are correct.

If you wish to pursue it a bit further on RootsChat I would suggest starting a new thread for each of them on the Worcestershire board.
