Hi Newfry,
You may remember early in May, doing a look-up for me on Lewin Parker and family of Tetbury.
You found him, as Lewellin, in the 1851 census, but no entry for him in 1841 or 1861.
I mentioned that I had a ref. to him in the gaol data base in Gloucestershire archives. Just to say that I have received a photocopy of the entry. It gives the most wonderful info. not only his age, but a full description of his appearance, including the fact that he had a mole on his shoulder blade, and that his left leg bent inwards at the knee joint!!! His height and occupation. The charge laid against him and the sentence, plus the fact that his behaviour was "orderly". He got a fortnight in the penitentiary.
If his offence had been worse he might have got to Australia free, instead of having to pay for himself and family to emigrate in the 1860s!!!!!!!!
Thi is really just to say what a good source this is and if anyone has ancestors in Gloucestershire it is well worth looking at the Archives site. There are several other data bases there.
