coroners report

I lost my youngest sister yesterday, on the death cert it says it was Diabetes related,
but we think she had gone returned to her old habit (drugs)
Is it poss to get a report from the coroner, if so how do we go about it

Wellie, unless her death was under suspicious circumstances, I don't believe that there would be any coroners report. If her own Doctor wrote out the death cert, (or a hospital doctor) as related to Diabetis. then that would probably be sufficient . If you think otherwise then you could start at your local police station and ask advice.. Dolly

Sorry to hear about your sister.  Can you ask for a post mortem or are you not her next of kin? 

Death certificates are not always accurate.  My dad (who was 91) died in a nursing home.  He had been there about 4 weeks and the local GP had not been to see him, although the surgery was only across the road.  When he died, he put the wrong cause of death on the death certificate.  I queried it but was told it had to stand.  The coroner decided that although the GP hadn't visited and in theory it should have been classed as a sudden death, he would just read the hospital notes and speak to his previous GP, and dispense with a postmortem, but we could have asked for one if we'd wanted to.  Obviously, due to his age and ill health anyway, we didn't bother.

Wellie, our postings obviously appeared at the same time.  If there was a postmortem, did it show drugs in her system?

Lizzie Not So Busy, I have spoken to my eldest sister who was there at her final moment, and she says there was a post mortem but nothing was said to her.
that is why I asked if you could get a copy

If there was a post mortem there will have been a coroners report.  I think you can contact the Coroners Office  - I don't know where that is located, but I'm sure the police would be able to tell you.

The other thing is that the post mortem report will go to your sister's GP and I would think you would not be able to get hold of that, but you could always try. 

Your sister's death certificate would have been issued after the post mortem, suggesting that the person doing the post mortem decided she had died from diabetic complications.  He/she may not have been looking for traces of drugs.

It also occurs to me that if your sister only died yesterday, it is a very short timescale for a postmortem to have been held.   Even when there are suspicious circumstances, or accidents, it usually take a few days before the post mortem is carried out and a report made.  Is your eldest sister sure that they actually took your youngest sister's body away for this.  She may have been very upset and not realised what was happening.  If she is the next of kin, I think she would have had to sign something agreeing to it.
