William Muir 1748 Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 25 April 07 20:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I've brickwalled for several years on William Muir born 1748 in Glasgow described in a family bible as Merchant of Glasgow. He married Catherine Scott b. 1754 Campsie 14 May 1773 again in Glasgow (source IGI).

They had John 1774 , James 1776, Janet 1784, Catherine 1786, Margaret 1789 and William 1792 all born in Calton and with the spread of birthdates I assume I've missed some or Muir has been mistranscribed on IGI.

I descend from John and his line is well documented but I can find nothing on William or his other children.

Any help very much appreciated.

David

Hi -

I know this might be strange but I decided to write to you because my grandmother from Scotland, Gorbals, name was Sarah Scott Mullin Muir Jessimer Gilligan.  I have found that Jessimer was originally Muir/Moir.  I have researched my family tree to find a few James, Williams and David Muir to be my family line on my grandmother's side.  I'm not sure if I am looking in the right direction because I need to research this further but the name thing got me thinking.  My family line comes from Glasgow and Gorbals (which I believe are very close)  maybe there is something here.

Could you please just drop me a line to let me know if it is at all possible.   I'm keeping my finger crossed.

Hi,

My grandmother's date of birth was 1919.  What year are you talking about?  I have 2 James born in 1828 1899 that I'm not sure about their history yet but they are on the list of family that I will be looking at.  I haven't found the Mullin link yet but I have only gone back to the early 1900's with information.  I do have some birth records for the 1800's but not much more than that.

It seems kinda strange that there would be 2 Sarah Scott Mullin (Muir) in the same area.  I can't see that being a popular name, it seems very family distinctive.  What other information do you have and maybe we can figure it out.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Mary,

I believe that we have just sent emails back and forth on another site.  It is now positive that we are related through the Jessimers.

Let me know if this is not the same Mary that I have just emailed but I think it is.

Hi Margaret, Just thought I would reply on this page , so that you know we are the same, I forgot to mention in my last email, the Muir can be, my grandmothers sister Margaret Paterson Mullin, who married John Muir, so perhaps this is where Sarah got her Muir
