Loading Street Directory data on PC database
« on: Tuesday 24 April 07 19:19 BST (UK) »
The 1911 Street Directory comes on CD but is only searchable by street not names.  Does anyone know if it is technically possible to extract the data to download to a database or spreadsheet program on PC to improve searching and data manipulation?

How is the data presented? If they're individual pages scanned into an Acrobat document I would imagine the answer is probably no. In theory you could print out the pages, scan them using OCR software and, having checked for errors, import the results into a spreadsheet/database. However this would be time consuming to say the least.
If it's in some other format I'll have a rethink.
