Robert Armstrong Canonbie c1831

Hello All,
I posted this some time ago but got no where so trying again.

I am looking for ROBERT ARMSTRONG c1831 or so. He was the father of  my G Grandmother Agnes Jackson/Armstrong she was born  illegitimate at Torcoon in 1855. Mother Charters JACKSON b1833.  From the Kirk Records they sinned at 'Orchard' where they were both servants.

By the process of elimination I have come to the conclusion it may be one of two.
1) ROBERT ARMSTRONG born CANONBIE in or around 1831. He is in the 1841 Census at Barrascrofts Outhouse as 10 years old and an Ag Lab. In the 1851 Census he is at Perterburn as farm servant 20 years old and is missing from the 1861 Census. If he was a servant he could possibly be at Orchard in 1854.

I can not find who his parents are at all or what happened to him.

2)Robert Armstrong who is born 1831 Baptised 1832 in Canonbie. He is a Mason & lived at Birney with his parents and died in 1861 of TB. He was single. If he was working as a Stone Mason at Orchard would he have been classified as 'Servant' or would he have been put down as 'Mason'?

The Robert Armstrong b1833 farmers son who lived at Torcoon was NOT the father as I had thought. In double checking I found he had emigrated to America before she was even conceived!!

Any help or ideas on this would be gratefully received. May be there are other Robert ARMSTRONGS as contenders.

If ure still out there, agnes father waa actually william armstrong.

Hi Rachel,

William was her husband. He was born 1831 in Bewcastle.

A Robert Armstrong was her father. I found the Canonbie Kirk Session documents which name both him and Charters.

Charters Jackson went on to marry William Armstrong b1831 (same person as above) and had 3 children. Agnes's step brothers & sister. Sarah b1863, Thomas b1865 & William b1866.

When Charters died in 1869 Agnes married William at Gretna Green - again have lots of documents as proof.

Think we have lots to compare so good we are contacting each other privately.
