COMPLETED-1871 Census - Can't find White Swan Yard Whitechapel
« on: Monday 23 April 07 13:06 BST (UK) »
I have searched the 1871 online Census for White Swan Yard (St. Mary, Whitechapel) for which I have an 1862 reference so defininitely existed then and also a greataunt was born there as per her birth certificate.  Is it possible that the records have not been computerised?  Does anyone have any ideas what I can do next to find out?

Thanks. :-[

Hi again,

Sorry cannot find them anywhere...maybe someone else may  have more luck.

White Swan Yard did exist...if you do a search in google under "white swan yard london" it comes up on a site with a list of london streets in 1891. Tried a street search on both the 1861 and 71 census at find my past but no result.

Good luck with your search

Swan Yard, St Mary Whitechapel can be viewed at ref RG10 521 from f 57.

Not sure if it is the same place though  ???

I had a very quick look through - there was an Abrahams family but not yours.

I had a look at the Swan Yard Barbara found in the 1861 and no sign of your Abrahams there either.

White Swan Yard was situated between numbers 20 and 21 Whitechapel High Street (The White Swan inn itself being at number 20), so it should be covered by RG10/ 521 and is probably the "Swan Yard" found by Barbara.

I did a search and found 69 people born in Poland in that piece of the census but no great correlations with the name/age profile of this family.

Thank you all very much for your efforts.  The Abrahams family at no. 3 Swan Yard are relatives, Samuel probably the brother.  My lot did move in there probably after the census, as my greataunt Rebecca was born there Dec 1871.

How do I sign this off as completed now? ;) ;)

If you modify the heading of your first post on this thread to say "completed" -  that should do the trick.
