I'm not sure but the HLW possibly stands for Cotton Hand Loom Weaver.

I'm sorry I don't have access to the 1851 or 61 ..... I just purchased the 41 a few days ago.


PS Bairds Close was apparently near Main Street Pollokshaws ..... so the link is a possible one.

Falkyrn,sorry to both you again,i'm looking at the age of sarah,it seem that her father was only 15 yrs old when she was born,is the census stating that she was the daughter[stepdaughter]and is her surname mcarthur too,thxs lorraine

Daughter ... and surname is McArthur

also remember that with the 1841 census many of the ages of adults were often rounded to nearest multiple of five ...

so he is possibly 36 or 37 and she could have been 18 or 19 which makes the ages "fit" slightly better.


either that or he was a "precocious " teenager with a penchant for an older woman with agnes showing as 5 years older.

The birthplace for the whole family is given as Ireland
