Henwoods again!- around Kingston Lisle/Sparsholt
« on: Saturday 21 April 07 16:10 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out with a look up for the Henwoods around the Sparsholt and Kingston Lisle area.

This thread from the Common Room will hopefully fill in the background story:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,218281.0.html

Although Patience Henwood died in Hurst,Berks in 1727 (will proved 1728), helpful Rootschatters have found the following 3 baptisms in Kingston Lisle:

Mary 16.2.1692  d/o Robert & Patience Henwood
Jonathan 12.2.1694     "                 "
Hannah 22.10.1699      "                    "

and the following burials in nearby Sparsholt:

Robert Henwood 11.11.1699 (no age given)
Hannah Henwood d/o Robert & Patience  16.2.1699/1700.

My Patience Henwood's will (1728) mentions a son Robert and a daughter Patience, neither of who's baptisms I can find! Nor can I find Patience and Robert's marriage.

To put it succinctly - I'm not doing very well at all!!   :-\

It seems highly likely that the Patience Henwood from the Kingston Lisle/Sparsholt couple are the same and she has presumably moved on after her husband's death.

What I'd like to know, if anyone has the technology (   ::)) is if there are any other Henwood BMDs in the vicinity of Sparsholt and Kingston Lisle?

Hi Viv,

Nice to hear from you.

I'd think it very likely that there's some connection - given the proximity of Uffington to Sparsholt and Kingston Lisle, and also given that - surprisingly - Henwood doesn't appear to be a very common name. Or perhaps they're all just hiding from me!

The trouble is that my Henwoods are way back in the late 17th/early 18th century and I'm struggling to find out any more about them. It's a name which appears in my tree through marriage - so not one carried on into later generations.

I'd be very interested to know if you trace your Henwoods back into that era - perhaps there will be a connection.
