Searching for birthdate, place and parentage of John BRAIN of Rodborne chapelry of Malmesbury parish. John born about 1782, Cricklade.  Married Ann PINNELL 11 Apr 1802, Malmesbury. Lived and died Jun 1865 at Rodborne. 1851 census lists birthplace as Cricklade. Searched both St. Sampson and St. Mary church records. No baptismal record found. Requesting lookup of neighboring Purton Parish Register for christening of John BRAIN. THANK YOU for your time and research assistance.

Purton is indexed on the BVRI. The only Brain baptism showing is this one

  Thank you, Valda. That information actually helps very much. John BRAIN had a brother named James.

There is a marriage entry in the Cricklade St. Sampson parish register for Hugh BRAIN and Mary GILES, 27 Oct 1777.

John BRAIN and Ann PINNELL had a son, Hugh Brain, born 26 Apr 1812, Rodborne.

So, I just need to find a christening for John.

If John BRAIN, born about 1782, lived at Cricklade  (according to the 1851 census) and not christened in the Cricklade parishes, he was probably christened in a neighboring parish, maybe the childhood home of his father or mother.

John was NOT baptized in the Purton parish. However, it is possible that James BRAIN, baptized 1778 in Purton, is his brother. Purton lies due south of Cricklade.

Just keep digging!! Eventually you will find what you are looking for.
