On this if you click on "Photo Archive" you get a list of nearly 80 photos, which you can view, some as early as 1879; a Joseph Baynes proudly poses in a bright red military uniform.  No pictures of what I wanted, but there are some wonderful snaps from the past there - Saxon Lodge does actually appear in the distance in a couple of them.  Maybe other villages have similar excellent sites.

The Cambridgeshire Association for Local History website contains a page on The Conduit, an annual publication on Cambs organisations on archaeology, archives, local studies, local history, family and social history, including local museums and archives.  The page includes a link to the current issue as a pdf file and this includes descriptions of and websites &/or e-mail addresses for all of the organisations -

Cambridgeshire 1891 Census on FreeCen - update

Another piece has been finished and has been uploaded to the on
line database and is now searchable for free on the main freecen site at
http://www.freecen.org.uk  

This is piece RG12/1289 Duxford covering the parishes of Babraham,
Duxford, Hinxton, Ickleton, Pampisford, Sawston, Whittlesford. This
means that there are now 21,359(14.7%) 1891 Cambridgeshire census
records available to search free on line.

The 1891 pieces on line are RG12/1289 Duxford, RG12/1291 Balsham,
RG12/1296 Haddenham, RG12/1307 Wisbech and RG12/1309 Wisbech
