Hi Sharon
I dont think your chap is scruffy at all!!!
The 1908 pattern web belt is weighed down by his bayonet...His trousers and tunic have creases in them and the Wolsely pattern helmet has rather a fancy pugree on it.
I think he may have just come off a parade!! The parade field my well have been muddy...hence the boots!!!
The reason I say parade is that he is obsensibly smart, and only carries a bayonet. This is drill order. The picture was taken outside of the UK, because of the helmet. I would hazard Egypt???
Do you have any dates/more details on this chap??? It would be great if you could post the original pic on its own....
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Don't worry Sharon...we'll give this a go!!
My great uncle went from Northampton/Buckinghamshire border to sign up with the Somerset Light Infantry in Taunton!!! So, residence and birthplace don't necessarily equate with Regiment joined!!!
Born 1899?? I was thinking mid 1920s actually!!
Good effort with the pic....but if you could scan the original, we might be able to see some detail on the helmet or somewhere
