Pete,
On the surface I would agree that Robert G Dickson b 1802 is your man. I'm a descendant of one of the Dickson families of Mouswald and have some info on most of the others, in fact have been trying to connect them all. Robert G doesn't appear in the 1841 Mouswald census nor does any of his siblings as far as I can discern. The only sibling I have a lead on is one of his sisters, Jean 9 Mar 1816 who married John Boyes in Kirkgunzeon, KBT in 1843. She died there in 1888 and her husband died in Liverpool in 1898.
Of the Dickson MIs I have, I can't pin down one relating to this family so am not sure which Dicksons they belong to yet. I can find at least 4 James that could fit the bill on your Robert G.'s father. It was a popular name for the Dicksons, everyone had one it seems just like Thomas, David, Robert and John. PM me if you want more info on the Dickson's of Mouswald and I'll see what I can find. My Dicksons also have connections to the Griersons of Rockhall and come from nearby Woodside, Mouswald.
Cheers
Mick Dickson
