GERMAN Merchant Seaman

My Ancestor came to UK in 1870/1880 and was naturalised but dont know when.  He only appears on 1901 census and this could be because he was at sea in 1891, his profession on his marr cert in 1892 puts him as a Merchant Seaman.  in 1881 he was about 14, and probably still in Germany so how do I trace him in 1891.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Johnnie ...............

Hi Johnnie

It's possible that he was enumerated in 1891 but no guarantee.  Assuming that his vessel was enumerated then it would have been at the port in which the vessel was docked or next arrived after the cenus date see:

 i have just found my gtgrand parents.after34 yrs,firstly ancester com1891 census, living in HULL.;fred miller born/1843. seaman born in Russia.Maria Miller born/1848.Germany.albert??/surname i can't decipher,born/1877.Louisa .b/1888 same surname as Albert. says born Hull.cant find them.i think they were b/Germany.none of the family knew about  Lousa. on1901.MARY is buried in hull.i have visted her grave.it was a paupers grave.6 others in it.all the birthdays are correct.i knew my grandad Albert well .but never knew he had a sister Louisa. nor did any relatives.the  Germans seamens records at Bremen.under seeleuterregister des bremerWasserchouts 1837-1873.Just hope someone can offer help to find.where albert and Louisa where born.ihave emailed Bremen.to find were gt grandparents where born.
