Andrew Scott from Ballynure
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 23:37 BST (UK) »
Would anyone, in their research, have come across the name Andrew Scott.

He was my Great Great Grandfather. He was a farmer and lived in Ballynure.

 I'm interested to know who he married, when and where.

I tried in PRONI, looking up Ballynure Pb Church records (the Church the Scott's belonged to) but couldn't find anything. I suppose he married in his wife's Church.

I would think they were married about 1850 to 1860 as my Great Grandmother was born in 1863.

Any help would be really appreciated.
Volvic.

Do you know the name of his wife? If there's more than one Andrew Scott in the area it might narrow down the search.
Also, Registry Office is another place to check.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks Aghadowey,

I don't know her name but in the 1911 census, apparently, there was a person called Clements staying with my Great Grandmother, so I wondered if Andrews wife's  name was Clements.

There was another Scott family living in Ballynure at the same time so it makes it difficult to know which family they are from, also both families lived in Bryantang (townland) Ballynure. I think this would make it difficult checking in the Registry Office.

Thanks very much for your help,
Volvic.

Here's what's on Emerald Ancestors for Andrew Scott marriages:

Mary Mackey 13 June 1850 @ Donagheady C.O.I., Strabane, Co. Tyrone;

Fanny Mowbray 29 Jan. 1850 @ Holy Trinity C.O.I., Londonderry, Londonderry;

Margaret Cromwell 25 Aug. 1851 @ Annalong Pres., Kilkeel, Down;

Eliza Dickson 28 Aug. 1852 @ Belfast Civil Registrars Office, Shankill, Belfast, Antrim;

Mary Donnan 20 Oct. 1854 @ Saintfield 1st Presbyterian, Saintfield, Downpatrick, Down;

Jane Moore 8 May 1858 @ Belfast CRO, Shankill, Belfast, Antrim;

Bridget McAnally 8 Oct, 1858 @ Duncannon Civil Reg. Office, Drumglass, Dungannon, Tyrone;

Mary Jane Hagerty 18 July 1860 @ Desertcreat C.O.I., Cookstown, Tyrone.

I hope this helps. There were no other Andrew Scott marriages in your time frame. The next was 1867.
Good hunting.

Hi Roger,

Thank you so much for your kindness and help in doing all these out for me.

I assumed it would be in Co. Antrim that they go married - but perhaps not. It's interesting that their daughter ( my Great-Grandmother ) was called Eliza Jane and the two Co. Antrim entries are for Eliza Dickson and Jane Moore.

I noticed in Ancestry Ireland that there was an Andrew Scott married in Antrim in 1861, so that is perhaps another option.

Thanks again for your help,
Brian.

I went to the Family History Centre today and found Andrew Scott's marriage.

 He was married on 14 Nov 1861 to Elizabeth Adair who also lived in Ballynure. They got married in Ballylinney Pb Church.

Thanks very much for your help with this.
Brian.

Hi Brian,

I just wondered if you had gone any further back with your Scott family from Ballynure as my own Scott family came from there also?  Hope to hear from you.
