Oughton's of Docking/Stanhoe
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 20:21 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have information on the Oughton family, descended from Edward Oughton b c1744 and Sarah Smith/South b c1748 from the Docking area? I'd be interested to hear from any relatives.
Kent: Groves, Langridge, Burfoot, Weller, Rugman
Norfolk: Oughton, Bailey, Senter, Boadwell
Lincolnshire: South, Espin
Yorkshire: Denby, Boocock
Lancashire: Derbyshire

Hi ktjp  :)

Only just seen your message....my husband has OUGHTONs in his family, at the moment the furthest back I have is William OUGHTON, born abt. 1820, who married Rachael GOSS in Stanhoe, 1839.  I am about to buy the marriage certificate for these two to try to find out who William's father was.

Would this fit with any of your information?

Cheers

Hi Prue thanks for the message. Most of our Oughtons came from Docking, but as Stanhoe was the next village, I'm sure they were all probably related in some way - I've yet to find out how! Would it help if I sent you a gedcome file of what I have so far? You can contact me on katiepeerless@hotmail.com and perhaps we can build up a picture of the relatives.
Best wishes
Katie

Hi Katie  :)

Your email address will be removed by the mods coz you're not supposed to put emails onto the boards  :-\  you have to PM them.  However I've noted it down and will send you a message so you have my email too  :)  I would really like to see your gedcom and see if we can find the link.  I'm sure there is one - as you say, Docking and Stanhoe are just up the road from each other  :D

Doing a little more research after I posted last night, and found a couple of refs. online to William's parents being James and Margaret...no further info about them unfortunately, and the email address given by the person who put the info up doesn't work any more  :'(

I will be ordering William's marriage cert today which should confirm his father and hopefully show some helpful witnesses  ;D

Cheers
Prue

Hi Katie,
This could be old news by now as I was trawling through older posts. I have traced my family line up to the Oughtons you mentioned as their daughter Alice b.1776 is a descendant. She married a Thomas Bond 1/11 1796 in Docking with Southmere and they had 4 children:
Ann Bond 16/5/1797 who marr. Thomas Dennis
John Bond 10/10/1799 who marr. Ann ? in Scarning
Robert Bond 3/1/1805 who marr.  Sarah ?
Thomas Bond 2/2/1807
I am descended from Ann and Thomas Dennis. I can give you more details if you need.

Thanks for that Anniejay

My husband is descended from Alice Oughton's brother James (b c 1781) and his wife Lucy Holloway. I have James and Alice's parents as Edward Oughton and Sarah South or Smith who married in Docking in 1769 and that's as far back as I have got - do you have anything else?

Regards
Katie

Hi Katie,
I discovered after my post that I had in fact already been in contact with you on GR or maybe Ancestry. I do not have any details for Edward's or Sarah's parents as yet but when I do I'll surely let you know. I have done a bit more research on my main Norfolk lines but have neglected the Oughtons. When I get the opportunity I'll check out the Parish Registers for them.
