Actually Paul I was going to suggest Beamish too as I can have a detour and go to Hylton castle

Ironbridge is good also as I can get there in less than an hour

I'm not too keen on London - I hate the place!

I'm planning a trip to the big smoke sometime in the next 3 months in order to visit the Family Record Centre or maybe Kew or maybe both if I can get 2 days off work.

I would be really happy to meet up with anyone who wants a chum at either of these frankly scary places.

I've been to the FRC a number of times so am quite happy to help anyone get started but I'm a newbie (been once) at Kew but happy to lend moral support.

Anyone up for it?

A few pints afterwards would obviously be in order!

I see that Manchester has been mentioned a couple of times - that would be great for me.  I could easily get there by train, only about an hour and a half travelling.

Ah ..  Manchester!  My alma mater.

I could ask an old prof I know to give us a tour of Manchester hospitals and poor law institutions.

Or if you want to recreate the typical 'Night Out In Manchester ' why not take a can of Boddington's into the shower and tear up a twenty pound note? :)

Being in U.S. I could only attend here or Canada.  Why not have two, one for U.K. and one for U.S./Canada?   Leagen
