Broughton Street? Gateshead

I am trying to work out the address of James Hunter on his marriage certificate 1897, Holy Trinity Gateshead.

I think it says "62 Broughton Street" and I think it is likely it is Gateshead, but that is just an assumption.

Can anyone help me to identify it? I can't find it in a modern-day A-Z or on an old Gateshead map...

I have also not located James on the 1891 census, so I am keen to pinpoint his location in 1897

According to a Gateshead 1930's street map there is no Broughton listed but there is Burdon. My Aunt who is 90 and was born there gave me that info.

As they usually married where the bride lived that would make sense.

My Grandma was born near Burdon Street too, and she can't recall a Broughton Street either.

There was a 62 Broughton Road in South Shields in the 1901 Census. There was no Broughton Street anywhere in County  Durham or Northumberland. Also in the 1890 Directory, occupied by Robert Simpson.

I think I have found James in the 1891 census:-

7, Greys Yard,  Tynemouth, North Shields

Margaret Hunter, 56, a widow b North Shields
James Hunter, son, 16, an errand lad, b North Shields
Christopher Hunterson, son, 19, b North Shields
Mary Ormston, 4, g.daughter - no birth place

This info is based on finding James Hunter , mason, in the 1881 census.

I've had a look in a couple of directories at that time and the only Broughton street I can find is in South Shields but thats in 1914

Yes that is them on 1881 census, they were there in 1871 as well

For 1891 census, James's mother was Mary b 1841 Gateshead, so Margaret doesn't fit unfortunately.  I can't find any of them 1891, but probably have a bit more creative searching to do - there are a lot of James Hunters out there!

Burdon Street, it does not exist today, I read it was demolished either in the 30's or 60's because of the unhealthy condition of the properties. My great grandparents also lived on Burdon St., in the late 1890's.
