Brookhouse, Denbigh
« on: Tuesday 10 April 07 14:47 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Could someone please tell me where my ancestors are likely to be buried if they lived in Brookhouse Denbigh? Because they had common names and I don't really have a clue when they died, I'm having a job finding records for them, so thought it might be easier to trawl some cemeteries next time I'm home.
Robert Roberts b c1844 Bontuchel
Jane Roberts    b c1833 Nantglyn
They lived in Brookhouse for about 3 decades and are still there on the 1901 census. I do not know anything about them, religion etc.
Kind Regards
Nerys

Hi Nerys

Brookhouse is on the Ruthin side of Denbigh. There is a small chapel nearby but I am unaware if there is a graveyard. St Marcella's church is also quite close (say 1/2 mile)  and there is certainly a very large graveyard alongside.
It is probably with having a word with Clwyd Archives.
Hope this helps.

Hi Nerys

Im also from Denbigh and dont go home very often, there is a huge cemetery at St Marcella's also known as Whitchurch but there is also a cemetery on Ystrad Road (near Denbigh High School) and theres also the church/chapel at Llanrhaeadr

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. We did go and have a look in St.Marcella Cemetery and Llanrhaiadr, not sure about the other one. I'll have to ask my mam. We didn't have any luck really but now have a vague idea that Robert Roberts might have died 1906, it's a case o proving that he is my 3x Great Grandfather. His wife was 86 on the 1911 census living with her daughter in Llanfwrog, but isn't buried in the churchyard there. So still a puzzle after all these years.
Kind Regards
Nerys

Nerys

1891 Census RG12/4629/82/4/22

Brook House, 22 Ruthin Road, Denbigh

Robert Roberts 48 married Thrashing Engine Driver born Bontuchel
Jane Roberts 59 married b. Nantglyn
Mary Ann Roberts 15 daughter - general servant b.Denbigh

----------------------------------
!901 Census
RG13/5231/7/5/32

12 Independ Chapel Llanrhaeadr Y C

Robert Roberts 55 married Temper Fowler b Bontuchel
Jane Roberts 64 married b.Nantglyn
--------------------------------------
Comparing their ages on both censuses they don't match but I think it's the right family.

Is there a Chapel Cemetery in Llanrhaeadr - might they be buried there ?

Hi,
Thank you, yes indeed the ages were different but Robert Roberts in all the Census records is a constant born 1844. He is on the 1901 census but none afterwards, so we presume he died in 1906, but too common a name to fully prove he is ours and not a relation who registered the death. I think there was an inquest.
Jane is living with her daughter Mary Ann now a Williams and her husband Edward Williams on the 1911 census, not on the next census. But again a common name. It would be nice to find where they are buried, but so far we haven't been able to find them.
Kind Regards
