Adobe opens other file extensions besides .pdf files (.api and .fdf) so it is up to you whether you uninstall it or not. 

Some of those other files extensions are fairly obscure and I can't recall having to use Adobe to open anything other than .pdf files.

Use the Windows Add/Remove programs feature in Control Panel to remove it.

Thanks lazylover, Reader 8 is a whopping 115MB plus all the other Adobe progs on my PC I have just saved 250MB ;D ;D
