Would someone be able to check  Oxfordshire 1861 census for Charles Neill  & son William ..maybe on Banbury...  Farnborough.
My elusive William Robert Neil ..b  1855 c.. who's father is Charles on his death certificate, is reportedly from Oxford & I'm unable to find him, but by fiddling with another site there seemed to be a father & son & I'm clutching at straws

I think you need to give more details about the father and son you have found and maybe we can identify them.

The only birth I found online was
William Robert Neill June qtr 1854 Greenwich 1d 580

I don't see him on the 1861 census with a father Charles, he's possibly the one living Mile End Old Town with parents Cornelius and Mary (born Ireland) sister Ellen.

The IGI gives a William Neale christened 20 May, 1850    Bloxham, Oxford - parents Charles and Susan.
There's also one for a William Neale christened 02 August 1857   Churchill, Oxford parents John and Eliza.

1861 entry for the first one is
Cumberford, Bloxham, Oxfordshire
Charles Neal Head M 40 Agricultural Labourer Oxon Bloxham - Blind from Smallpox
Susanna Wife M 37 Oxon Balscott
Martha daur Un 14 Oxon Bloxham
William son 11 Farmer's Boy " "
Thomas son 8 " " "

I think I looked at that Bloxham one & as he is still there in 1881 I think, it can't be him because he was then in Australia.
thanks for trying.  I'm battling with him.  I saw that Greenwich one. Is ther anyway I can know who the father is

I didn't know he went to Australia, you didn't say, I've been checking subsequent censuses to discount entries .... but he wouldn't be there anyway would he?

Yes of course there is, you can order the birth certificate - easy way is online at www.gro.gov.uk
