WW1 soldier - help identifying regiment please
« on: Wednesday 04 April 07 21:39 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to find out information about my great grandad who was a soldier in WW1. As a family we don't know much about his time in the great war other than the following:

enlisted 01/09/1914 to RH&RFA,
reg.no.3778, no1. section, RFS 12 DAC BEF France.

If anyone could please let me know what RH&RFA and RFS 12 DAC stands for it would at least give me a chance of trying to find out more information on him.

All help (very) much appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat!  :D

I believe RFA stands for Royal Field Artillery

If you check out the WW1 Campaign Medals on the National Archives site, and search for your great grandfather, you should be able to see what these initials stand for.

After clicking on the link, you will see on the left side of the page "Family History". Click on this and you will see a link for the "Campaign Medals". Click on this to search for your great grandfather.

Thanks everyone. Yes he was a perkins and I see I've missed out his name from the original post.    :-\

His name was Albert Henry Perkins and he was born, I believe, in 1887 in Putney (or thereabouts). I'm not sure how you knew that but I'm all ears...!
