Hi Karen,
Below is a query from 2002 on Rootsweb concerning Alice Ellen Pope. I had become interested in it as the father of Alice was a William BRAVERY, the name I am researching, although he & Alice's mother were never married.
I found that Alice, aged 8, sailed from London on 14/3/1914 aboard the SS Scillian, arriving at Peterborough, Ontario 29 March 1914.
Such a sad story, but an interesting one and it looks as if they might be the family you mention!

An application for the admission of Alice and the half brother Percy, was
made by the Rev. W.Russell, Finlay, Fa-xhurst,Dorking. One of our inquiry
officers investigated the case, which resulted in which resulted
in the admission being offered to Alice only.
The Mother is a single woman who has had four illegitimate children by three
different men. According to her statement she was lead astray on each
occasion under the promise of marriage. The father of her first child
(Lizzie 12) was BRADSHAW, a railway porter, who met with tragic death on the
line.
She next kept company with a man named OVENDEN, who became the father of
Percy, and who then decamped.
Subsequently she was courted by William BRAVERY, a labourer, who is the
putative father of Alice and Florence.
An affiliation order was made for 2s. a week against this man, but after he
had gone to prison several times for non-payment, the mother told him she
would not trouble him any further.
She is now keeping company with a labourer named RICHARSON, who has assured
the maternal grandfather that he intends to marry her, but the latter has
his doubts about this. The general verdict on the mother is that
she is too fond of men and is easily mislead
At the present time the mother is earning 12s. 6d. a week as cleaner at the
Imperial Club, 33, High Street, Dorking, of which she pays 4s. for rent.
It is stated she has little affection for her children and is impatient with
them and sears at them. The applicant mentioned that Mr. Gooch of Dorking,
an annual subscriber to these Homes of 20Lbs. was interested in this case.
He also stated that in the event of emigration he would endeavor to collect
the necessary funds. Alice is strong and healthy.
