Hi Fizzy

Thanks for your efforts.  I appreciate your help.

Just to be clear - does it say everyone was born in Pancras or just the children?

Thnks again
Anita

The reference for the 1871 census entry was

RG10 201 folio 56

They were all born Middlesex the enumerator's " ditto was not continued for St. Pancras from the family above, only for Middlesex.
The unnamed child was a boy, plus there was one servant who was a horsekeeper - James Solomons 17 born Middlesex.

Marriages Jun 1867
HOPKINS  George     Clerkenwell  1b 855
Solomons  Adelaide Alicia     Clerkenwell  1b 855

Have you accessed the details of their fathers from the marriage certificate?

Regards

Hi Valda

Thanks for the extra info.  The servant James may be a brother of Adelaide's.  Time will tell I suppose.

The marriage is the right one though I don't have the certificate.
George is the son of Job (Birmingham)
Adelaide may be the daughter of Henry but that would make her born 1841 not 1848.  It's a big difference.  I was hoping that I might learn more about her birth from the census.

Still, I'm not going to hold it against a lady for lying about her age, eh?

Many thanks
Anita

Lambeth was in Surrey not Middlesex, there is the age difference and the added second name - none of this precludes it being the same woman but it means you really do need the marriage certificate to eliminate or confirm it is the same woman. Unless you have the family on the 1861 census (can't see them on any census or in FreeBMD - some quite distinctive names like Leonora) to confirm a younger brother called James or a later census after 1871 which gives more detail of Adelaide's birth.

Births Mar 1841
SOLOMONS  Adelaide    Lambeth  4 319

There are plenty of candidates for a George Hopkins born circa 1846 Middlesex on earlier censuses but I can't see one of the right age with a father called Job. I can't see any Job Hopkins in the London/Middlesex area. Birmingham is over a 100 miles from London.

Hi Valda

You've certainly provided me with heaps of info an food for thought.  Should keep me going for ages.

I only have a small window for this family
Married 1867
Emmigrated to NZ 1874.

I have George HOPKINS with his family in 1861
Father Thomas (son of Job-sorry) and mother Margaret Isabella (nee BIDWELL)
born abt 1847 in London City
Living at St Mary Woolchurch    Middlesex

Nothing of the Solomons so far except that she was apparently connected to solicitors Solomons and Solomons, London and had her 12th child in 1890.  1848 fits better for that I think.

Thanks for all your help.  I am now fuelled to look in further areas
Cheers
Anita

MARGARET ISABELLA BIDWELL
THOMAS HOPKINS
Marriage:  20 MAY 1843   Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London

What evidence do you have that these were the George you are interested in - his parents?

1851 census HO107 1530 folio 258
14 Lombard Street St Mary Woolnoth  Middlesex
Thomas Hopkin 33  Portsmouth, Hampshire, Head Married Messenger
Margeret I Hopkin  33  Datchet, Buckinghamshire,  Wife Married
Jesse M Hopkin  7  City Road, Middlesex, Daughter
Henry F Hopkin 5  Cripplegate, Middlesex,  Son
George Hopkin 4  Lombard St, Middlesex,  Son
Louisa H Hopkins 2  Lombard St, Middlesex, Daughter
Joseph W Hopkins 11 wk or mths  Lombard St, Middlesex,  Son

Hampshire is further south than London and therefore even further away from Birmingham. Thomas gives his birthplace as Havant Hampshire on the 1861 census. Margaret's birth is in Datchet on both censuses.

Hi there,

I know that you asked the question a few years ago about Adelaide and George Hopkins whom married in London.  I have done a lot of research on this family tree as the family left England for New Zealand where Percy Hopkins was born (whom is my great grandfather).

I have the marriage certificate for the couple showing George Hopkins at the time of marriage was a Fishing Rod Maker living in Anne Street with Adelaide.  The father of George is showing as George Thomas Hopkins whom was a Brush Maker.  The father of Adelaide was Nathaniel Solomons.

The Solomons are quite a famous Jewish family, with lots of distinguished ancestors.  I have got back to the marriage with Phoebe de Metz whom was born in Leyden, Netherlands.

If you have any further information that you could pass onto me it would be appreciated or if i can help please let me know.

I am finding it difficult to work out which George Hopkins is the right Hopkins whom married Adelaide in the 1851 census.

Kind Regards
Kelly
