New York Senators
« on: Friday 30 March 07 01:16 BST (UK) »
Question- I have a relative who was a NY State Sentor in the 1880's-1910's.   Do you think there is any information out there that may help in my quest to find more on the family?  Would the State keep information on senators?  I am grasping at straws to find more on this particular line.

The person in question was Herman Henry Torborg from Brooklyn, NY.

Any ideas?

Take a look at: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

The site has 2, 725,000 pages from old newspapers in central and western New York. Including Utica. I just did a search on Herman H. Torborg and came up with 8 hits. I don't know if they will help in your family search, but they might.

John G. Torborg

John G. Torborg, a brother of former State Senator Herman Torborg, died on Thursday in his seventy-fourth year. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 o'clock tonight at his late home, 85 Glen Street, Brooklyn. He formerly was active in Democratic affairs in Brooklyn and was prominent as a Mason. He belonged to the Old Mill Yacht Club.

Have you tried to contact Albany to find out what kind of archives they have? I am pretty sure you have to do your own research at the state library (I am hoping to get there this summer myself) but it's worth a shot.

Thank you all.  I will start trolling about.  I think a call to Albany may be in order along with a trip. :)
