Sheila;
            Through freebmd,I see some other barnwells in Bishop Auckland, Joseph,John,Margaret,mary and a Bridget,who may be related to my great great grandfather,William.
              I have ordered some of these-Joseph's marriage, so maybe ?
              My grandfather said his father's family was from county Meath.I am not sure abouut Griffith's Valuation.....Maybe with the famine family moved around ireland before going to England?Who knows?
                  Thank You for your replys.

You need not restrict yourself to just FreeBMD as you may be missing entries.  The full BMD index is free on www.ancestry.co.uk   Do not fill in the main search page but scroll down and there is a link on the right hand side of the page.  Choose the complete version and you can look at each quarter of the year in the books - just as if you went to London to do so.
Why not look for census for the other Barnwells that you are finding?  They may well give a place of birth and if it is not Ireland then you can discount them.

the Vicars Wife;
                           I have ordered all birth records for my great grandfather and his brother's and sisters.
                           Was it commom to have one name on a birth certificate,then use another for the same child on Census records?
                           Thank You
