Can you specify the period of the handwriting ?

There was a big house Springmount, townland of Castleinch, parish of Athnowen. The house was just west of the village of Ovens, which would indeed place it some 4 miles west of Ballincollig, and about 1 mile SE of Mullaghroe House, townland of Mullaghroe.

Spring Mount, Athnowen, was occupied in 1837 by S McCarthy Esq (Lewis, A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland).

Any good ?

Hi Kintree,
The handwritng was written by my Gt Uncle from his unfinshed research on our family tree, possibly about 30 yrs ago. Although I've found his notes very useful in the past , I've  hit a brick wall with this lead.
My Gt G/F x3 John Martin b 1817 Erith ,Kent .Occupation Farmer Dissappears sometime after the 1851 census in England , he reappears back in Erith , Kent in the 1881 census. he married 1844 in Kent to Emily Elizabeth Buckhurst b1823 Erith , Kent. In the 1851 Census they had 3 children ,Charles b1845, Emily b 1847,William b 1849.
His wife Emily died Ireland 5th June 1865 aged 42 yrs , I can only presume the Family went to live in Ireland prior to this. Emily was interred back in Erith , Kent.
John Martin died 1893/94 at Bexley in Kent, where he made a will naming his children born in Erith and other children which could have been born in Ireland. i  cannot locate the will myself so have no other childrens names.
I cannot find any other connection to Ireland with this family line only these notes , only the above details of "springmount".
  Regards, dez
Thanks for the info of springmount Anthnowen Kintree

Hi,

This is interesting. I have been tracin a family who lived in Springmount after the McCarthy in the 1837. They were Rawlins. Any connection?

Where do you see the reference to Springmount?

Hi Kated,
The reference to Springmount is written after my gt G/m x3 Emily Elizabeth Martin ( maiden Buckhurst) who married John Martin both born Erith , Kent.  Emily died in Ireland 5th June 1865 aged 42 yrs. She was interned back home in Erith, Kent. I have yet to discover thier Ireland connection. John Martin was a  Farmer  in Erith , Kent. He was the son of Ebenezer Martin b abt 1781 & Mary Jones b abt 1786 .I do not know the birthplace of Johns parents. What i have now got to trace is records of John & Emily being in Ireland.  I have yet to discover thier Ireland connection. I cannot find a connection to Rawlins. Do you know how i could find parish records for the Springmount area between 1851 and 1875 ?. Any advice most welcome
regards,derek martin

Hi Kate D,
Thankyou for the Springmount info, most grateful, will get back to you if i find any connection or other information. I do beleive John & Emily did have other children and they would have been born in Ireland between 1851 and 1875.

Hi,

I went to the Valuation Office chasing the occupiers of Springmount Athnowen Co Cork. There are two Spring Mount houses on the one map both west of Ballincollig. The one I was interested in is:

Springmount House (Ballincollig sheet 73 LHS Castleinch, Athnowen)
15 1859 George H Rawlins house garden and land lease 33 years at £32 10/- 1861 from Edmund Walsh
1864 same
1877 same
1882 Edmund Walsh leased from Reps of Lord Carbery
1884 Richard Carroll

The other is in the townland of Coolatanavally in Carrigrohanebeg sheet 73 middle PLU Cork 5a

This did not have my Rawlins in it. Perhaps this was the Martin house? Did you get the death certificate of Emily? Perhaps there was an obituary?

Springmount, townland of Coolatanavally, parish of Carrigrohanebeg, is due NORTH of Ballincollig.

But it might be a good idea for dez to investigate it anyway.
