Cambrian Newspaper Look Up Please
« on: Tuesday 27 March 07 20:45 BST (UK) »
Anyone near Swansea Central Reference Library who can look up the following entries in the Cambrian newspaper?  It is expensive doing an international money order for just these two items so hope someone can do a look up for me.

I lost track of Thomas Wenham after 1861.  He died by 1871 as his wife is widowed but can't determine his death date.

Thanks! Laverdiere

I live in Swansea and will take a look for you - tomorrow if I can get a machine, next week if I have to book - sometimes I can be lucky and find one free when I get there.

If anyone in Swansea could look up the following in the Cambrian newspaper I'd be extremely grateful?
My wife's family are related to the Maliphants; oddly the earliest cast-iron link Maliphant I've found was a George born in Ireland in 1798 (per 1841 census Llansamlet) and family lore says he was born in a canal warehouse during the United Irishmen uprising. I presume his father was a mason involved in building the canals but this is just conjecture.

This is the marriage of his daughter and I was hoping it could shed a little light.

MARRIAGES, MARRIAGE 06 July 1866 ON 3 JULY, AT THE PARISH CHURCH, SWANSEA, THOMAS DAVIES, SHIPWRIGHT, TO CATHERINE MALIPHANT.

One possibility for George Maliphant's father might be a Charles Maliphant.
There is a link to the White Rock Copper works & I wondered if this notice might help?
Cambrian C10 DEATHS, DEATH NOTICES  02 April 1836 AT WHITE ROCK,NEAR SWANSEA,CHARLES MALIPHANT, AGED 81.

Thank you if anyone could help with either of these.

Michael

Thanks Sylvia, I hate this time of year - it's usually so dismal, so I'm trying to put bright spring-like things around me.  ;D

Michael, I've been to the library and got the clippings but unfortunately, there are no extra details on either piece - they just say what you already have from the index. Post 1839 there is the option of looking at the "South Wales Daily Post" as well, and that sometimes gives more, but the Cambrian tends to be just the bare facts.

Sorry.  :(

If you want the scans send me a PM.

Bev.  :)
