Hi there,
Know your posts are now old but have only just joined and come across them. Am very interested in your ref to Samuel Hall being your gggg-grandfather, as have been doing my wifes FH for some years and he is hers also. Also was intrigued by the 'parental consent' referred to as had also noticed this. However I noted that during that period (1810-1830) nearly all marriages carried out at Gillingham/East Stour/West Stour - particularly those performed by a Walter Whitaker - have that comment. In some cases the comment reads - with consent of ALL parents!!.  It seems very obvious that around that time and for those parishes, and that gentleman in particular it was used just as a general comment and not to signify that those being married were under age. At a guess I would say that about 90% of the marriages during that period have that comment. Find it very hard to believe that they were all under age!!
Would love to make contact with you as it looks as though you and my wife are related
                                           Regards

Hi Peter, apologies for not answering sooner as we have just returned from holidays.
This is how I am a descendant of Samuel Hall:
Samuel Hall Born 1749 Gillingham Dorset. Died abt. 1842 Married 1777 Mary Herridge Born 1756.Died 1834.
Samuel Hall Born 1789 Dorset Died 1861 Gillingham Dorset Married 1813 Jane Hann Born 1789 died 1857.
Samuel is the 6th child ( I think) of Samuel&Mary.
Edward Hall Born 1820 Gillingham Dorset Died 1890 Dandenong. Vic.Australia. Married 1841 Mary Sanger Born abt. 1821  Dorset.Died 1911 Cheltenham Vic. Australia. Edward is the third child of Samuel & Jane. He is my Great Great Grandfather.
Would very much like to exchange any other info with you.
regards
Carol

I am confused.

Your latest post talks of Edward Hall b1820 who married Mary Sanger, and yet earlier posts talk of an Edward Hall bc1810 who married a Rachel Hall.

The emigration date has moved from 1857 to 1848.

Earlier you were unsure as to Rachel's parents; now she seems to be out of the picture.

Presumably we are no longer looking for an 1851 entry. Is the Edward/Rachel partnership still relevant?

Can you let us know what you are now looking for, and what you know for certain about this family?

Richard
