Hi
Having looked at other census there are a few Thomas Batkins, I think the best thing to do would be to obtain the marriage certificate and find out his fathers name,
these are marriage details

Name Year Quarter District County Volume Page

Batkin, Thomas 1895 September Stoke upon Trent Staffordshire 6b 337
Ryles, Frances 1895 September Stoke upon Trent Staffordshire 6b 337

Please disregard the census info I posted earlier until you have checked out his father.

Maybe these are your Batkins:

1901 Census RG13, Piece 2604, Folio 125, page 37 Hanley, Staffs

Sched 208 - 9 Raymond St.Thomas Batkin, Head,30, Crate Maker, Born Hanley, Staffs
                                           Fanny Batkin, Wife, 29                                     "
                                           Elsie Batkin, dau, 6                                          "
                                           Fanny, dau, 5                                                   "
                                           Thomas, son, 4                                                "
                                           Millicent, 2 mths                                               "

If you go on to FreeBMD, ask for Births, Batkin, from 1894, (where there is one for Elsie) through to 1910 there are a fair few (including Millicent) all Stoke on Trent for Hanley births

Hope this helps ;)

I see that you have listed Ryles as one of your research interests. My name is Ryles and I live in the North East. The family originated in Stoke on Trent and my 5th great grandfather (Aaron Ryles) moved to Newcastle on Tyne and married a local girl in 1810. What do you know about Frances Ryles parentage? Give me some names and we may be able to assist each other.

Hi Erix,

My Frances Ryles b 1878? married in 1895 to a Thomas Batkin b 1870 in Northwood, Stafford. Frances' parents were Thomas Ryles b 1831? and Ann? b 1836?

I am afraid this is all the info I can find at the moment.

Any info would be appreciated.
