Missing photos on Picassa
« on: Saturday 24 March 07 23:17 GMT (UK) »
Had to do a 'System Restore' and now i've lost several individual photos and 2 folders of photos from myPicassa 2 programme.

I managaed to locate one missing folder when i clicked on 'Locate on Disc' but simply cant unearth the rest. Logic tells me that they are hiding somewhere but how do i go about digging them back up??

Picassa doesn't appear to give a  Find Missing Photos link!!

Is there a simple way of returning these lost pics to Picassa again please  :'( Poli.

If you go into Picassa and then "File" on menu bar select "Add Folder to Picassa". This brings up all of the folders on your drive and you can then select which ones you want Picassa to scan and add to its memory store

Thanks for replying Falkryn , i've already tried that to no avail.  It brings up a list of everything else stored but NOT the folders/files that i want. I know the titles of the 2 missing folders which seem to have vanished. To make it even worse, they are pics of my 'oldies'. I need them for my tree .!!

Have you tried:

Start->Search->For Files or Folders.

If you know the name of files or what filename extension they had e.g. filename.jpg then enter the search criteria as: *.jpg
that is an asterisk followed by a dot followed by the letters jpg.

Hi there

if all else fails google "file recovery angel"  or even "filerecoveryangel" tyhis is a nice little program that will recover all deleted files and folders. The beauty of this program (and maybe of others, I don't know) is that you can download the program and make sure that the files you are looking for have actually been deleted and not stored somewhere else before you buy the program

If the files/folders HAVE been deleted then the program will confirm this and then its up to you to consider if the purchase price is worth the recovery of the folders.

However if the files are not shown as deleted then you know they are still somewhere on the computer so a simple search should find them.

Good luck.

Hi lamanchica,

I tried the 'angel recovery ' and downloaded the softare but it wasn't any help i'm afraid [probably my fault not knowing how to use it properly!!]

The thing that really gets me, is that the 'missing' pics must be somewhere on my hard disc as i have certainly not deleted them. The fact that i can't bring them up on screen is driving me potty [or pottier!!]

I'll keep trying--anything--- Poli ::)

Hi polidor

if the files are not shown as deleted then that is a good sign, as they must exist somewhere on the hard disk.

Do you have copies of the photos anywhere else as the files will be named the same on the hard disk?

Also try doing a search for DSC ??? as this is a very common file format.

remember that you can also search the deleted folder for files.

good luck

Hi Polidor

Your files are on disk somewhere.  Even if you delete files they are still there unless you overwrite them.  Basically, there is a thing called a Master File Table (MFT) that holds all the details about every file on your hard disk.  If you do delete a file, all that happens is that its entry in the MFT is removed, but the file still exists on disk, however Windows Explorer no longer sees it because it has been removed from the MFT.

Did you try that search thing I suggested in an earlier thread?

When Picassa saves a file which folder does it save them to?  If you run the Picassa programme and try and save a file, what is the default folder where it tries to save them?  That folder is likely to be the place where your missing photographs are.
