Galway, Limerick?
« on: Saturday 24 March 07 15:21 GMT (UK) »
My GGGrandfather is noted on the 1861 Scottish census as having come from Galway, Ireland.

Would you assume it means he came from Co Galway?  Or Galway, Limerick?  My geography is useless!!

Any help in my first steps in Irish Genealogy would be really helpful.

(And to make matters worse, his surname is Kelly - So what are my chances of ever finding out about his parents!!)

John Kelly born circa 1805, in "Ireland, Galway", son of Martin Kelly, farmer, and Julia O'Day
Genealogists don't die, they just lose their census.

There isn't a Galway in Limerick, it would be Galway Ireland.

Either Galway City or County Galway, or perhaps just somewhere near Galway City...
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
