I've done some research on the Furneaux family
There were lots of Samuel Furneauxs
We found lots of Physical evidence ( Gravestones), in the old Norman Holy Trinity churchard Buckfastleigh.
This church was arsoned many years ago, but we were told that all the records are held in Exeter

Hi :)

Why would you think That Samuel was married prior to Emily Derges?

Their marriage tooK place Sept q 1874, Newton Abbott

In 1881
transcribed under FurneauF
Samuel Furneaux mar 27 pasterer b Torquay
Emily wife 27 b manaton
Annie dau 5 b Torquay
Samuel son 2 b ditto
Jonas son 9 months b ditto
Maud Norris lodger

according to this census Jonas is younger than Annie and therefore one of the 2 oldest children

In 1891 the family is still together in Tormorhan, Torquay with all their other children except Annie and Jonas/Joe.

No sorry, I didn't think that

Hi furn,
I came across this while researching my family tree and although this is a very old post, hopefully you will see this. Samuel Furneaux was my g-g-grandfather via Florence Furneaux (m Frank Teed Wood) who had a daughter Florence Adela Kathleen Wood (known as Kath) who was my paternal grandmother. The Gerry Wood you mention is her younger brother, and as far as I know, is still alive aged 92.
I'd be interested if you've gone back further than Samuel & Emily as that's as far as I've got.
Regards, Andrew.
