trying to find albert edward roberts
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 17:22 GMT (UK) »
hello,
after a long time searching for albert edward roberts who was born in chester in 1897 i found him on a tree in ancestry.co.uk, i emailed the person concerned to see if he could help me in any way but all he said was it was a distant relation via marriage i think, all we knew about albert was that he was sent away for some reason when a young boy and not heard of again, the information i did gain via this family tree was

albert edward roberts married a rose lydia long and he apparently died in approx 1980 and lived a 127 pinks hill in swanley kent, this is where my geography lets me down as i do not even know where to start looking, any ideas or help would be much appreicated

thankyou
snoopy

snoopy,

GRO has the following death registration:

January - March 1980
Albert Edward Roberts
Date of Birth:  4 July 1897
Registration District (for death):  Gravesend
Volume:  16
Page:  0828

My suggestion would be to send away for a copy of his death record.  This would tell you his address at the time of death and hopefully also give more details.  I don't know if it would tell you where he is buried because I'm not familiar with more recent British death records.

With his date and location of death, you could request a look-up of his obituary (either at Rootschat, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, or the local library in the city where he died).  The obit would hopefully give you information about his wife and any possible children.

Regards,
Josephine

snoopy,

Is that the same Albert Roberts living in Chester in 1901 with grandparents Thomas and Esther Hill?

Do you know if he was visiting or living with them?  Do you know who his parents were?

Regards,
Josephine

hello josephine,

many thanks for your replies, i shall check out the death you found to see if this is him!

Yes this is the same albert with his grandparents in 1901. the info i have on him is that his mother (my gt grandmother) was married to a man called roberts and for some reason they parted after albert was born and she then set up with my gt grandfather and had more children, it was said by my grandmother that she had a brother and he was sent away to some sort of school for boys and he was not heard of again, very sad i thought, i have been trying to find any information on him and by good luck found him on a family tree! and that is  the history i have on him so far.

once again josephine thankyou so very much for your help it has encouraged me to keep hunting for information about him.
regards
snoopy

You're welcome, snoopy!

I noticed that the family tree you mentioned has a date and place of death for Albert's wife.  Her obituary (if there was one) might also give you some useful information.

If you know where your Grandmother grew up, perhaps you could find out about boys' schools in that general area and then contact them to see if they have any record of Albert.

Good luck & I hope you find out what happened to your Grandmother's brother!

Regards,
Josephine

We are searching for an Albert roberts born around 1919/1920. He may have had links with Wales, Cornwall, warminster etc. Ours was thought to work as a barman. Does that link in with any info you have?
